Our history

Born in May 1996 as a research center , the result of an agreement signed between the University of Alcalá and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Madrid " Research Laboratory Service Activities " ( under the acronym of Servilab ) . Its main objective was to encourage applied research on socio- economic issues , with special emphasis on the analysis of the service sector and the process of outsourcing that has taken and is taking place in modern societies .
This situation continued until late 2003 when it asked the relevant statutory bodies UAH processing in Institute , thereby adopting the name of Institute of Social and Economic Analysis ( IAES ) . The Governing Council of the University of Alcalá , in its meeting on March 25, 2004 , approved this request and moved , as was required , the Social Council, which also gave its approval to the creation of the new Institute at its meeting on July 22 of that year , when the University sent all documentation to the Community of Madrid for final approval. The latter , through its Directorate General of Universities, reported positive regard that issues the ANEP and requested some clarifications , which were answered and forwarded to the CAM via the Secretary General of the UAH .
Final approval of the IAES as ' Institute ' has remained pending since then until March 17, 2011 , the day on which, after passing in 2009 a new evaluation process , the Governing Council of the Community of Madrid has ratified the proposal at the time by the University of Alcalá . Various reasons are behind this long process and this long wait , many attributable to random coincidences , other people 's will ... but not the time to remember these issues , but we rejoice because this confirmation away from the " legal limbo " in which we have been involved , while also giving us a major boost to keep walking with a fresh and renewed in continuing the work we have done , not without effort , from our starting fifteen years ago now .
A tight bottom mode the following figures speak for themselves: over 30 articles referenced in ISI WOK , about 700 in Google Scholar , more than 35 competitive research projects and 135 non-competitive , training of two dozen researchers with doctoral theses and participation in educational activities four official graduate of the University of Alcalá .
